Picnic Food Ideas: Five Ways to

Prepare Chicken

Have you ever heard of the phrase “it tastes like chicken”? Have you ever wondered what that means? Surely not everything tastes like chicken! While the expression isn’t exactly true, it does show you just how popular chicken is. Some great picnic food ideas revolve around chicken as the main course, but sometimes the many ways to prepare this diverse food confuse people. To help with that confusion, I am going to give you some picnic food ideas regarding chicken that you can take advantage of the next time you are planning a divine spread at the picnic location of your choice.

1. Fried Chicken as a Southern-Style Picnic Food Idea

In the American South, fried chicken is a staple of good eating. To make a great piece of fried chicken, take an assortment of chicken wings, breasts, and drumsticks and lay them out. Then, take flour and mix it with a dash of garlic, cayenne powder, and any other spice you might like. Coat the chicken pieces in the flour and fry them in a pan with vegetable oil (or peanut oil for more taste and a healthier result) until the crust is golden brown. Then enjoy!

2. A Bit of Spice is Nice: Lemon Chicken

To make lemon chicken, take boneless chicken breasts and place them in a glass cooking dish. Then, rub in poultry seasoning, a little bit of thyme, and perhaps some oregano or garlic powder. In a separate dish, prepare a mixture of honey and lemon juice (more lemon juice than honey). Baste the chicken with this sauce and bake at 375 degrees for approximately 30 minutes (or until the chicken is white on the inside). The honey will add a sweet taste to the chicken, while the tanginess of the lemon adds a nice flavor.

3. A Picnic Food Recipe for BBQ Chicken

The best BBQ chicken is made on the grill, hands down. While you can bake it, I recommend grilling it for that extra grilled flavor. This picnic food idea is all about the sauce; either make your own sauce (if you know how) or buy the best one you can find at the supermarket. Just coat both sides of the chicken with the BBQ sauce as you grill it. A standard-sized chicken breast should take approximately 15 minutes to get nice and done.

4. Chicken Nuggets for Your Picnic

If you have kids, making chicken nuggets can be a terrific picnic food idea for your outing. Take chicken breasts and roughly cube them, then coat them in a flour mixture before frying them in a pan of peanut oil (or the oil of your choice; peanut oil works the best). Then, bring along dipping sauces, such as BBQ, honey mustard, and ranch, and you have a great chicken nugget treat for your family.

5. Good, Old-Fashioned Picnic Food Recipe for Chicken Wings

This picnic food recipe can actually be used for watching sporting events at home or tailgating before the game. If you like extra-spicy wings, take buffalo sauce from your local market and add to it a dash of cayenne pepper and a few drops of Tabasco sauce. Fry your chicken wings (again, peanut oil really tastes great), then spin them in the sauce a few times. For tamer wings, I recommend taking your standard BBQ sauce, throwing in a touch of honey (for sweetness) or lemon juice (for tanginess) and spinning your wings in it.

All of these ideas make for great picnic food ideas, and if you need more picnic food recipes, just search on the internet for them. Regardless of which one you cook, I hope your chicken lunch or dinner out in the park or in your backyard is as delicious as it can be.
