Picnic Beef Goulash

Commonly known as Hungary’s delicious national food, the beef goulash is cooked and served in different ways. But even when simmered over a stove or baked inside the oven, beef goulash will always be unforgettably tasty. Those tender beef chunks will be delectable to eat, especially after hiking for several miles. To keep out the guilt complex from health-conscious hikers, add more vegetables to picnic goulash dishes. Throw in some spices as well for a little adventure.

Ingredients:

2 lbs beef, cut into large cubes
2 cups onions, sliced thinly
½ cup green and red bell pepper, seeded and cubed
½ cup potato, peeled and cubed (optional)
½ cup carrot, peeled and cubed (optional)
3 Tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
4 Tbsp soy sauce
1 cup tomato sauce
1 Tbsp cornstarch
Salt and ground pepper, to taste
1 tsp hot sauce
1 cup beef broth

How To: Heat 3 cups of water. Do not bring to a boil. Stir in beef cubes. When meat changed color, from red to pale brown, drain hot water. Wash meat cubes twice and place in a strainer to drain. In a deep pot, boil 2 cups water. Add blanched beef cubes and cook over low heat. Cover and let simmer for 1 to 2 hours, or until tender. Set aside beef broth.

In a deep pan, sauté onions in olive oil until transparent. Stir-fry beef cubes. Add salt, ground pepper, hot sauce, and soy sauce. Pour tomato sauce. Stir to coat all meat cubes. Lower heat and cover the pan. Simmer for 3 minutes, to give time for flavors to blend. Pour 1 cup of beef broth. Add potato and carrot. Cover pan and let boil over medium heat.

Add more beef broth or water, if thinner sauce is desired. For thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with 2 Tbsp of broth or water before adding. While stirring carefully, arrange green and red bell pepper on top. Cover and remove from heat. Serve over hot rice, cooked macaroni pasta, or cooked wide egg noodles. Serve cold with green vegetable salad and a glass of red wine.

This is the easiest picnic beef recipe from this collection. Just throw everything into a pot or slow cooker and leave alone for almost 2 hours. When delicious smell starts wafting out with the smoke, the beef casserole is ready for a picnic.

A casserole dish is always considered as pot luck because you’ll never guess what’s in it that makes every bite yummy and satisfying. Sometimes a cross between a stew and a soup, picnic beef casserole is best served with large chunks of bread that you can dip into the hot tasty brew. A picnic campfire is the perfect setting for this lovely beef dish.

Ingredients:

2 lbs round beef, cut into thick strips
½ cup baby potato, peeled
½ cup carrot, peeled and sliced
½ cup whole corn kernels
½ cup green bell pepper, cut into thick strips
5 fresh bay leaves, shredded
Soy sauce, to color
Salt and ground pepper, to taste

How To: Place beef cubes in a pot with 3 to 4 cups of water, or until all meat is just a bit submerged. Do not cover. Keep the heat low to keep the water from boiling. Remove and discard the dark-colored foam that will appear on top. Add all ingredients. Stir to blend everything. Put back cover and cook over very low heat.

Grilled foods are always perfect for picnic outings. Kids and adults alike love hot grilled foods grilled foods for picnic lunches or dinners. Barbecued meat or fish (or any kind of seafood like shrimp and squid) tastes better when cooked with grilled vegetables as side dish. Fresh air is the best seasoning for these picnic food recipes to grill. No meal is more enjoyable when shared with family and friends. Make sure to choose the right wine and vegetable side dish for grilled foods you bring to the picnic.

Two Grilling Methods

Two types of grilling when using charcoal or barbecue briquettes: direct and indirect grilling methods. Thick cuts of meat usually require cooking over indirect heat; while easy-to-cook picnic foods can be grilled directly over charcoal embers. For indirect grilling method, create an empty space in the middle by scraping the hot charcoals to opposite sides of the grill.

BBQ Tips and Techniques

Here are some grilling tips and techniques to make your picnic food grilled dishes yummy and tasty. Do not burn or overcook because charred meat is not healthy for the body. To avoid overcooking, picnic grilled foods are microwaved or boiled in marinade. To avoid charring, apply sauce or marinade on barbecued meat when cooking time is almost over. To avoid losing the delicious juices while grilling the picnic foods, do not press the meat (like steak or hamburger patties) while cooking. Rub cooking oil on the clean and dry surface grill grate to keep food from sticking. Round-shaped grill has equal distribution of heat.

How to Prepare the Charcoal Grill

Clean the grate grill with steel brush, rinse well, and let dry; then brush on some vegetable oil. Remove ashes in the grill. Arrange the charcoal or briquettes like a mountain with a small cave opening at the bottom. Roll and twist a piece of paper to form a long and thin shape. Light one end and carefully insert into the “cave”. Smoke should be free to escape through the pile of charcoal so that oxygen can get inside to keep the fire alive. Use a metal utensil or thick stick to spread the hot coals.

Picnic Grilled Shrimps

Shrimps are quick-cooking and best grilled over direct heat.

Ingredients:

20 pieces large shrimp (without head), peeled and deveined but keep the tails intact
1 piece small lemon
2 Tbsp honey

Marinade Ingredients:

2 cups barbecue sauce
½ tsp ground pepper, fine
¼ tsp fine salt
¼ tsp garlic powder

How to: In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for marinade. In a large bowl, squeeze lemon over shrimps. Set aside for 2 minutes; then, wash quickly and drain well. Marinate shrimps for 1 hour. Drain well before grilling to avoid burning. Stick 5 shrimps to each barbecue bamboo sticks, horizontally or vertically. Arrange on pre-oiled grill grate and cook over a single layer of red-hot charcoal or white bbq briquettes. Shrimps cook for 6 to 10 minutes; or 3 to 5 minutes for each side. Brush marinade on shrimps only once and when almost half-done. Drizzle or brush honey on grilled shrimps and serve hot on top of sliced ripe tomatoes and shreds of green lettuce.

Picnic Barbequed Chicken Drumsticks

Dark-colored chicken barbecues are caused by the sweetness in the marinade. If light color is desired, pre-cook the chicken drumsticks with the marinade to shorten the grilling time.

Ingredients:

6 pieces medium chicken drumsticks or legs, thawed and well-drained
¼ cup soy sauce
1 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1 Tbsp hot sauce
1 Tbsp brown sugar
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ ground pepper
¼ fine salt

How to: Combine all ingredients and set aside for 1 to 2 hours. Using a fork, prick chicken legs on different parts so that meat will absorb the marinade. Cook chicken over indirect heat. Braise the marinade over the chicken while grilling. Serve with green salad and dressing dip.

Picnic Pork Ribs on Hot Grill

Pork is tastier when cooked slowly. Braise with some barbeque sauce while cooking over indirect heat to make it smell delicious. Pork ribs are the best choice for picnic grilled meat recipes because pork meat is more tender than beef.

Ingredients:

2 pounds pork ribs, washed and drained
2 cups barbeque sauce
¼ cup vegetable oil
½ cup chili sauce (optional)
½ cup brown sugar (optional)

How to: Arrange the hot charcoal on the grill to create a vacant space on the middle. Grilling over indirect heat requires longer cooking time and frequent turning to avoid burning or charring. To keep the meat moist, brush with barbeque sauce and vegetable oil on each turning.

Summer Picnic Idea

Summer picnics are more fun when picnic foods are grilled right before eating. Remember: quick-cooking recipes are better cooked over direct heat; while large slabs of meat need to be slow-cooked using indirect heat to keep the meat tasty, juicy, and tender.

Fried chicken is always a favorite with kids but oven-baked chicken with the usual breading can be healthier because of less oil content. Chicken can also be cooked over hot coals easily and quickly. Just marinade the chicken meat overnight in barbecue marinating mix so that it will be tastier and juicier.

Chicken casserole with rich sauce or stir-fried chicken strips with crisp vegetables are great as picnic foods for eaters who like to wipe their plates with bread or have their rice moist and tasty. Of course, whole roast chicken will be perfect to bring along with other picnic goodies such as salads, cheeses, and a bottle of sparkling white wine. Picnic chicken foods need not be fussy and complicated to prepare. There are lots of easy ways to cook chicken recipes here; and some helpful tips on proper ways of packing cooked chicken foods, too.

Fried Chicken

Fried chicken can be prepared and cooked in many ways but the simplest recipe may just include fresh chicken legs and seasoned coating/breading. A deep fryer is not required to fry chicken. To get the chicken legs crispy on the outside and juicy from the inside even when pan-fried, make sure that the pieces being fried are half-submerged in pre-heated oil and not over-crowded in the pan. Three to four pieces per batch is fine. Otherwise, the fried chicken will be soggy and greasy. Oven-baked chicken may not be as crispier but will surely be more preferable by the health-conscious. To keep the fried chicken crisp and hot: cook it a few hours before departure, cool, and arrange in a container lined with several table tissues to absorb excess oil.

Ingredients:

12 chicken legs, washed and drained
1 piece egg, lightly beaten with a pinch of salt
4 cups cooking oil
Breading (ratio: 2 cups flour per ¼ tsp each of ground pepper and fine iodized salt)

How to: Heat oil in a cast iron frying pan. Dip each chicken leg in the egg mixture and coat with breading thoroughly. When smoke starts to appear on the surface, put one chicken piece into the oil with skin-side down. Avoid over-crowding. Use a pair of tongs to prevent the hot oil from splattering. Remove the chicken when the color turned golden brown and arrange on the cooling rack to let the oil drip.

Simple Chicken Casserole

This easy-to-prepare and no-fuss dish can be cooked in a slow cooker. Just throw in all the ingredients and let simmer for about an hour. The recipe is simple yet very satisfying. No need to pack. Just bring the whole pot.

Ingredients:

2 cups rice, uncooked and washed
2 cups water
6 pieces chicken skinless breasts, deboned and cut into chunky cubes then blanched in hot water
2 cans cream of chicken
1 small can sliced mushroom, well-drained
2 medium onions, roughly chopped
1 small can salsa
6 cups cheese, shredded

How to: Divide all ingredients into two parts. Layer the bottom of the pot with the first part of the following: rice, water, chicken cubes, cream of chicken, mushroom, onion, salsa, and cheese. Repeat procedure for the second layer. Optional: Arrange shredded spinach leaves before cheese. Boil and simmer over low heat for about an hour, or until rice is tender and fluffy.

Crunchy Veggie Toppings

Chopped assorted veggies stir-fried in a little olive oil is a tasty alternative to the usual vegetable salad you eat with roasted chicken. Top it on a bowl of steaming rice to make a fulfilling meal. To pack, transfer the stir-fried vegetables in a ceramic pot. Do not cover while steaming to avoid over-cooking veggies due to excess heat.

Ingredients:

3 Tbsp olive oil
1 whole chicken breast, parboiled and shredded to strips
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large green bellpepper, seeded and cut to strips
1 large red bellpepper, seeded and cut to strips
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 medium carrot, peeled and cut into strips
1 small cabbage, chopped roughly
Pinch of salt and ground pepper

How to: Heat oil over medium heat. Cook chicken strips and onions until slightly browned. Put the heat to high and throw in all the vegetables along with the salt and ground pepper. Continue stirring to avoid burning. Remove from heat when all vegetables look coated with oil. In a different pot, boil rice in water until cooked. Fluff the rice and transfer to a ceramic bowl with cover.

Great Picnic Food Ideas for Hamburgers

When you think of a picnic, what dish immediately comes to mind? For some, it is a sandwich. For others, it is a nice, juicy steak off of the grill. For many, though, the first thing to come to mind is a delicious grilled hamburger with all of the trimmings. There are tons of terrific ways to cook a mean hamburger. While they are all great, my two favorite ones are given below.

The two picnic food ideas for hamburgers in this article will offer you two perspectives on a burger from two different types of cuisine: Western and Asian. Both promise to be extremely delicious!

Picnic Food Ideas: Bacon Ranch Burger

This is one of the best hamburgers, in my opinion, because it has a lot of bold flavor that attacks your taste buds and makes your mouth water. The ranch really combines with the bacon flavor (as well as the tomato juice undertones) to give you a tasty and robust flavor. To make this delicious hamburger, you will need the following ingredients:

- Enough ground chuck meat for 4-5 hamburger patties

- 2 ½ tablespoons of dry bread crumbs

- 2 tablespoons of grated purple onion

- 1/3 tablespoon of garlic powder

- Bacon

- Ranch dressing

- 2 ½ teaspoons of Worchestershire sauce

- 2 tablespoons of tomato juice

Before you use the meat, I would recommend marinating it in your marinade of choice. Take your hamburger meat and add to it your onion, garlic, tomato juice, bread crumbs, and Worchestershire sauce. Form this meat into 4-5 hamburger patties and add salt and pepper if you wish. Then, grill your hamburgers as you normally would. Cook the bacon and add it to the hamburger, then add ranch dressing. Toasted sesame seed buns go great with this burger, as do your typical hamburger dressings. For added flavor, add BBQ sauce and onion straws to the mix.

Picnic Food Ideas: Teriyaki Burgers

This hamburger recipe takes a burger in a bit of a different direction than your typical meal, and adds a distinct Asian flavor to the meat that will provide you with a unique – and delicious – taste. If you think an Asian-flavored hamburger is a bit out there, just wait until you try it! For this recipe you will need the following:

- Enough lean ground beef for 6 patties

- 2 eggs

- 1 cup of dry bread crumbs

- 1 1/3 tablespoon of sugar

- 2 1/3 tablespoon of soy sauce

- 1 tablespoon of teriyaki sauce

- ¼ teaspoon of ginger

- ¼ cup of water

- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder

- ¼ teaspoon of sesame oil (optional)

The preparation for this picnic meal is pretty straightforward. Take your beef and add to it the ingredients listed above. Mix well and form 6 patties. Then, either grill or broil your hamburger patties until they are thoroughly cooked. This teriyaki burger goes best on a sweet bun roll, and tastes great when paired with any traditional grilled side item.
I hope you enjoyed these picnic food ideas for Hamburgers. You can try them in your next picnic.

Preparing for a picnic can be a bit stressful or it can be a lot of fun. Obviously every picnic is centered around bonding, laughter, and of course food. Picnics are embarked upon in order to bring together friends and family or to celebrate summer and life. Regardless of your reason for having a picnic, there are a variety of food choices when deciding upon a menu. Throughout this article we will examine some relatively easy but quite delicious picnic food recipes for meat, specifically focusing in on chicken.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat (Chicken) #1: Tasty Roasted Chicken

Chicken is an all time favorite of most women, children and men. Regardless of age there is something about chicken and its versatility that leaves people wanting more. This specific recipe is a relatively simple roasted chicken dish with tons of flavor. You will need the following ingredients: lemon juice (1/2 cup), a bay leaf, ½ teaspoon of thyme, marjoram, and savory (all dried), cloves of garlic (5), roasting chicken (5 pounds).

Combine all ingredients except the chicken into a blender to finely chop and blend to create a mixture of the items. Simply add the chicken, coating each side, and allowing it to marinate in the mixture overnight. When preparing to cook, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the chicken on the roasting rack and add salt and pepper as desired. Allow it to roast for approximately an hour and a half with periodic basting with the seasoning throughout the roasting process.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat (Chicken) #2: Baked Chicken Delight

Another great chicken dish for picnics is baked chicken. Although there are multiple ways to produce a tasty baked chicken for your next picnic, this recipe proves to be absolutely delightful. Ingredients include the following: skinless boneless chicken (3-4lbs), milk (3 tablespoons), Dijon mustard (2 tablespoons), Cajun seasoning (3 teaspoon), Greek yogurt (3/4 cup), olive oil (3 tablespoons), and salt and pepper to taste. You will also need breadcrumbs (2.5 cups).

Use a large Ziploc bag to combine the milk, mustard, Cajun seasoning (1 teaspoon), and yogurt. From add the chicken to the mixture, close the bag and shake until all pieces of the chicken are coated with the mixture (marinate overnight in the refrigerator for best results). Then preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a tray mix together the breadcrumbs, some salt, pepper, and the rest of the Cajun seasoning (2 teaspoons). Remove the chicken from the mixture bag and place it in the breadcrumbs, be sure to coat both sides. Afterwards apply some olive oil spray to each chicken breast and place them on a baking sheet covered with foil. Baking should take up to an hour or until the chicken is completely cooked with a golden brown hue.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat (Chicken) #3: Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Picnics are known for their sandwiches; however, now you have a recipe for unique chicken sandwich that is sure to be pleasing. All you need is bread (white or wheat), sliced deli chicken, and Dijon mustard (or honey mustard). Simply add the chicken and Dijon mustard to the bread and place it on a plug in grill. Allow it to cook until both sides of the sandwich are browned and then remove. It is that simple and is quite delicious.

It is spring time and the winter chill is finally started to ebb. The need for a jacket is nonexistent and simply basting in the summer sun is just days ahead. As the warmer months approach it is an ideal time to have a fantastic picnic. The best thing about picnics besides lasting memories and fun is the tasty food that is sure to be present at these outdoor outings. This article explores a few tasty picnic food recipes for meat.

Tasty Picnic Food Recipe for Meat #1: Glazed Ham

A glazed ham is very versatile and is perfect for your next picnic! Better yet, you can even use the leftover to make sandwiches the following day if all of the ham is not consumed at the picnic. You will need the following ingredients to pull off this easy recipe with success: a ham, cherry juice (3 ounces), brown sugar (1/2 box), cane syrup (1/2 cup), butter (1/4 pound), confectioners’ sugar (1/2 cup), cinnamon (1 teaspoon), and Worcestershire sauce (1 teaspoon). From here all you have to do is combine each of these ingredients (besides ham) in a saucepan until it starts to boil. Be sure to stir occasionally. Roast the ham as usual simply adding the mixture periodically throughout the roasting process. Now you have successfully prepared a delicious glazed ham to be the main course of your picnic menu.

Tasty Picnic Food Recipe for Meat #2: Frankfurters

Frankfurters hotdogs are incredibly popular for not only children and teenagers, but also adults. These tasty treats are ideal for any picnic and easy to make and transport. You will need ¼ a cup of the following ingredients: celery (chopped), butter, brown sugar, water, green pepper (chopped), can of tomato soup, garlic powder or salt (1 teaspoon), vinegar (3 teaspoons), lemon halve, onion halve, and frankfurters (10).

For preparation you simply have to cook the peppers and celery in the butter until tender. Add in everything but the franks, lemon, and onion. Simmer the sauce for about fifteen minutes. Add the lemon and onion and simmer 15 more minutes. Boil the hotdogs until they are done and then place the frankfurters in the sauce. Then you are ready to serve.

Tasty Picnic Food Recipe for Meat #3: Turkey or Ham Loaf

This recipe is able to be amended by adding turkey, ham, or both. Be sure to have the following ingredients before preparation: load of round bread, house blend Italian dressing (1/2 cup), Mozzarella cheese (1.5 cups, shredded), sliced turkey or ham (1 pound), cheddar cheese( 1 cup, shredded), sliced tomato, spinach leaves (8, without stems) and mayonnaise (optional).

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to cut an opening in the top of the bread and remove some of the internal bread to make room for the ingredients. Apply Italian dressing to the outside and inside the bread. Then add the spinach, cheese, turkey or ham, and tomato. Add any other ingredients you desire and top it off with cheese. Place the entire bread loaf in foil and bake until golden brown. Allow for cooling before serving.

Savory Chicken Dishes

Picnic foods can be anything you want them to be, really. Do not think you have to stay in the same, old, traditional routine of making sandwiches every time you go out for a picnic. You can certainly make sandwiches, of course; there is nothing wrong with that at all. But do not be afraid to branch out and bring some different recipes to your get-togethers. Chicken is one of those meats that is just delicious for any picnic outing. Plus, there are several ways to prepare it, so you will never have the same dish twice if you do not want to. These two picnic food recipes for meat in this article will teach you how to grill a delicious chicken dish as well as prepare one in your kitchen.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat #1: Alpine Chicken

For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients (note that recipe is for four servings):

- Four boneless, skinless chicken breasts

- Applewood smoked bacon

- Bacon ranch dressing

- 1 cup of tomatoes, diced

- 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

- Your favorite grill seasoning

- ½ cup of lemon juice

- 1 teaspoon of cayenne

- 1 teaspoon of oregano

To prepare this dish, first make a marinade with the lemon juice, cayenne, and oregano. Mix this together and set aside. Take your chicken breasts and lightly rub your grill seasoning onto them. Then, place them in the marinade, lightly cover with the juice, and let sit for at least three hours in the refrigerator

When you are ready to grill, just remove the breasts and brush them with more marinade before placing them on the grill. Place your bacon on the grill as well until it is done (not too crispy). When they are almost done (the center has just a barely noticeable touch of pink), place some cheddar cheese on the chicken breast. Then, when the chicken is white, place the bacon on top, let sit for about a minute, then remove and plate. Cover with the bacon ranch dressing and some diced tomatoes and you have a delicious serving of Alpine chicken.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat #2: Southern Fried Chicken

If you want a delicious dish that is great warm or cold for your picnic, then Southern Fried Chicken is the dish for you. You will need:

- 2 cups of flour (unsifted)

- 2 teaspoons of paprika

- 1 ¾ teaspoon of salt

- 2 teaspoons of garlic powder

- 1/3 cup of milk, whole

- 1 ½ tablespoons of lemon juice

- Vegetable oil for frying

- 1 egg, large

- 2 teaspoons of butter

To prepare this dish, heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Combine your dry ingredients (flour, paprika, salt, and garlic powder) together and mix. In another bowl, mix your egg with the milk and lemon juice. Dip each chicken piece (breast, leg, or thigh) in this liquid mix, being sure to coat each side, then dip into the dry mixture, getting a nice coat all over. When you have rolled your chicken, place them aside for 20-30 minutes, then cook them in the frying pan, one side at a time. It will be finished when your skin is a nice, golden-brown color. Before you do, though, toss in the butter so that it can melt; you will want to place your chicken in the butter just as it melts. You will want to let your chicken simmer until the meat is a nice, opaque white with no traces of pink. When this is done, remove, drain, and then serve or pack away for later.

Two Great Steaks

when you read the word picnic, what do you usually picture? Do you picture a basket with a red and white checkered tablecloth and a plate of sandwiches with maybe some potato salad? If you do, and think that is what a picnic is, then you are missing out on some great picnic experiences. Grilling out can be a wonderful picnic experience, especially if you have some mouth-watering picnic food recipes for meat at your disposal. This article will share with you two phenomenal recipes for steaks that will be sure to give your family and friends something to sink their teeth into.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat: How to Grill Steaks

Before we move into the recipes themselves, it is important to first go over how to properly grill a steak, so you can get the best bang for your buck when it comes to your food. One of the most important things to grasp is how to cook the meat. Steaks can be cooked on a scale going from well done (no pink at all in the middle) through medium-well and medium (warm pink center) through medium-rare to rare (cool red center). Everyone has a preference for their steak, so make sure you find what they are and keep track of them. Another important thing to remember is the importance of marinade. You want your steak to set for a while in that sauce so you get the maximum amount of flavor in your meat. The two recipes below include marinades that you should use, for at least six hours in the refrigerator before you cook your steaks.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat #1: Parmesan Peppercorn Steak

For this recipe, choose any cut of steak you would like. I am partial to ribeye but sirloin works well too. You will need (per steak):

- Cracked peppercorn

- Shredded Parmesan cheese

- Garlic butter (or butter mixed with minced garlic)

- ¾ tablespoon of lime pepper seasoning

To prepare the steak beforehand, take the peppercorn and gently crack it (but don’t grind it). Rub both sides of the steak with the peppercorn, and do the same with the lime pepper seasoning. Leave this in the refrigerator, covered, for at least three hours. Then, grill your steak as normal, and right before you take it from the grill, cover it with the Parmesan cheese and garlic butter. Then enjoy.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat #2: Sweet Korean Steak

The title may sound odd, but this really is a delicious dish. Here is what you will need:

- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds (preferably toasted)

- ½ teaspoon of black pepper, ground

- 2/3 cup of soy sauce

- 1 ½ tablespoon of honey

- 1 minced clove of garlic

- 1 ½ teaspoon of sesame oil

- 1 teaspoon of paprika

For this steak, the toughest part is just mixing the sauce. Over low heat, combine the ingredients in a saucepan and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved into the sauce. You want a sauce that is a little thicker and more “sticky” than your normal BBQ sauce, but not too thick. Marinade your steaks in this sauce overnight in the refrigerator, then brush some on before and during grilling. This is definitely a unique taste for a typical grilling picnic, but it is definitely worth it.

Hamburger

Ah, grilling out. To me, there are few summer pleasures as divine and relaxing as grilling out for a picnic on a nice, breezy summer day. Grilling out is perhaps the quintessential picnic activity. You can go to parks all over the place that have built-in grills waiting for you, or you can pack yours up and take it with you – or even throw a picnic in your own backyard. Of course, no true cookout is ever complete without some truly delicious grilled dishes. This article will share with you one of my all-time favorite picnic food recipes for meat: the Hardy Chargrilled Hamburger.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat: Before You Get Started

Of course, before you begin with your picnic food recipes you have to first make sure you have the proper gear. Nothing is more annoying that getting outside for a delicious barbeque and forgetting to bring a spatula, or a pair of tongs, or your favorite sauce. Below are the essentials for a great grilling picnic.

You should not travel to any picnic without taking your tools. Your tools should be an extension of yourself at the grill. At a minimum, you should have a grill fork, a spatula, a pair of tongs, a sturdy steak knife, and a fork. All of these should be made of metal, not plastic. You can also find these tools specially made for grilling – they will have long handles for reaching into the heat.

In addition, you should take equipment to help you prep and cook the food. A sauce bowl and sauce brush is a must. How else will you baste your meat with delicious sauce? Some people also bring with them a whisk, but a serving spoon should do. Also, bring a spray bottle. You can fill it with water for moisture or can fill it with a thin sauce or marinade to spritz over the meat.

Furthermore, you should make sure you have all of your ingredients, including spices, herbs, sauces, and any other item that will be applied to the meat itself. A roll of aluminum foil is never a bad thing to have either, if you want to have grilled side items.

Picnic Food Recipes for Meat #1: Hardy Chargrilled Hamburgers

For this savory burger, you will need the following:

- One pound of ground chuck (Angus beef is recommended)

- Worchestershire sauce

- 1 1/2 tablespoon of cayenne

- 1 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic

- 2 teaspoons of brown sugar

- Salt and pepper to taste

At least three hours before you head out to the picnic, take a mixing bowl and dump in the hamburger meat. Then, add in as much Worchestershire as you would like. If you need help, toss in enough sauce to thinly coat the meat, but not to soak it completely. There should be a shallow amount of sauce in the bottom of the bowl after mixing it. Then, add the cayenne, garlic, and brown sugar. Mix thoroughly by hand. If you want more flavor, increase the amount of all of these by ½ a tablespoon (only ½ a teaspoon for the brown sugar). Cover with plastic wrap and leave in the refrigerator to marinate for three hours at a minimum (though 6-12 hours is best).

At the picnic, prepare your grill by starting the fire and letting it burn a little, but so the flames are still coming through the bars. This is essentially for a good chargrilled burger. Then, form your hamburger meat into patties approximately an inch thick. These will shrink somewhat during cooking, so if you want a thicker burger, make the patties thicker. Then, grill your hamburgers as usual. If you want to make them even better, mix some Worchestershire sauce with a touch of garlic powder and cayenne and put it in your spray bottle. Then, just occasionally spray your hamburgers. Depending on your fire, your hamburgers could take as long as 15 minutes to grill. You will know they are done when they reach at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit (and, of course, when your guests say that amount of pink is juuuust right.)

For toppings, I highly suggest barbeque sauce, sharp cheddar cheese, colby jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and bacon on a toasted bun for the best hamburger ever. Enjoy!
