The beach is a prime destination spot for summer all over the world, and promises a laid-back, relaxing vacation away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. When you pack up for that beach trip, what do you bring with you? Most people bring swimsuits, floats, suntan lotion, beach towels, and maybe a surfboard. But if you really want to enhance your trip, consider packing a lunch for a nice, calm, and soothing beach picnic. This article will give you two great picnic food ideas for your beach trip. After all, what is more relaxing than great food on the sand?
Picnic Food Idea #1: Fruit Smoothies
There is nothing better for a beach than to have a cold, refreshing fruit smoothie in your hand while you lay out, soaking up the sun. We have all seen images like this on television and in the movies, and it makes us dream fondly of a great time out on the sands. Well, this can easily be you. The picnic food recipe below is one way you can make a great-tasting fruit smoothie of your own.
First, gather up your favorite fresh fruit. I prefer strawberries, but you can make a smoothie with just about any kind of fruit. Even combinations, like strawberry and banana, or pineapple and mango, work great. Take a blender and fill it about three-quarters of the way with ice, and then place in your fruit. For larger fruit, like grapefruit, pineapple, or oranges, you might want to cut it up beforehand. You can also add in a half a cup of milk at this point if you want a smoother smoothie, but it is not a requirement. Put the top on the blender and pick the appropriate option. If you want a smooth drink, then you’ll need to blend it longer. If you want the ice to be a little bigger, then grind it rather than completely blend it.
Pour into a glass, stick a straw in, and enjoy! You will win bonus points with your family if you place it inside hollowed-out pineapples, like in the movies.
Picnic Food Idea #2: Fruit Basket
Since beaches tend to be hot, you need foods that will cool you down, not heat you up. Fruit is the perfect choice for this. Not only is it cool and tasty, it is also nutritious – plus it is easy to serve and does not require cooking of any sort. Here is a great picnic food recipe for a fruit basket.
Begin with a watermelon. Cut it in half (length-wise, not down the middle). Hollow out the red pulp and place it to the side. Then, take an assortment of fresh fruit and cut them up into bite-sized chunks. I usually use strawberries, grapes, watermelon (can’t let it go to waste!), oranges, pineapple, and kiwi. Place your fruit in the watermelon basket and put the entire thing in the refrigerator to let it chill for a bit. Then, when you are ready to head down to the beach, juts remove the watermelon fruit basket and you are ready to eat! Isn’t that a great picnic food idea?
